Aqua is a public projection designed for use with QCAD.
Aqua is a generative piece designed for public projection, envisioned as QCAD Southbank’s own evolving virtual aquarium. The project aimed to create a lively, community-focused experience that reflects the creative atmosphere of the campus.
I approached this by developing a system where sea creatures, built in TouchDesigner, appeared, looped, and moved unpredictably across the projection. Using CHOPs, LFOs, and Math operators, I experimented with timing, layering, and movement to strike a balance between randomness and visual cohesion. The process was lengthy but rewarding, as I consistently experimented with the rhythm and pacing of the sea creatures.
This project enhanced my technical fluency in generative systems and also showed how interactive media can build a sense of community by turning environments into creative experiences.
